Assessment of Impacts of Motivation on Construction Worker’s Productivity in Nigeria

Abstract


The research work assessed the impact of motivation on construction workers productivity in Nigeria. It also identified the various incentive schemes available to construction workers and assessed the effect of motivation on the productivity of the workers. The research work was carried out through review of related literatures and structured questionnaire on sectional basis in consonance with the objectives of the study. Data collected from questionnaire were analysed using, frequency and percentage as statistical tools. Findings shows that a motivated workforce can exert major influence on the success of the project, supply of information, tools and equipment materials as a result of; detailed planning for the needs of every crew are crucial factor in the smooth performance of worker. It also indicates that organizations’ resources are well utilized without wastage, high commitment of workers to work and increased level of productivities are some of the benefits of motivation. Thus, the research recommends that construction workers must be adequately motivated to ensure huge success on project, information, equipment, and tools must be provided for construction. Construction workers must be encouraged to go for vocational training, open communication lines, provide opportunities for recognition and providing good working conditions will be of good practices to motivate construction workers in Nigeria.
