Abstract

In the recent years, study of phenology variation has taken significance quintessential part of a bigger research agenda of seasonal change. This study has attempted to (a) analyse the monthly, quarterly, inter-annual and seasonal variation of vegetation (b) observe the variation in phenological transition dates of tropical deciduous broadleaf forest in eastern India from 2001 to 2014 (c) correlation between NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and LST (Land Surface Temperature) (d) To identify hotspots (sensitive area) of the study area and (e) spatially change detection of classified image between 2001 and 2014. The study was conducted on 820 sq.km area of dense forest in the districts of West Singhbhum and Sundargarh. MODIS TERRA NDVI and LST data of 500 m resolution was used. In this study plotting time series curve between 2001 and 2014 MODIS NDVI data produces a temporal curve that summarizes the various stages that green vegetation undergoes during a complete growing season and correlated with MODIS LST data give the negative correlation of climate change. Time series curves can be analyzed to extract key phenological variables, or matrices, about a particular season, such as the winter season, summer season and rainy season. Time series between 2001 and 2014 also give the land cover changes. Land use/land cover change detection is also very essential for better understanding of landscape dynamics in phenology and gives the dynamic result in research area.
