Achieving Surgical Accuracy in Implant Dentistry Using a CAD/CAM Stent: A Case Report

Abstract


Surgical accuracy is of utmost importance in implant dentistry as one of the most common aetiology of implant failure is related to incorrect placement. The surgical aspect of implant placement is vital to the stability, support and retention of the prosthesis to be placed later. CAD/CAM in dentistry has established strong footing in the field of Oral Implantology. The fabrication of a stent to guide the implant drill using CAD/CAM serves better purpose than one made manually as the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and other radiographic records obtained may be used in synchronization with the digital impressions of the casts obtained. The ease of fabrication is another advantage besides significant reduction in surgical trauma. This article presents a case report of a surgical stent fabricated using CAD/CAM.
