Prospective of the Application of Synthetic Biology to Engineered Genetic Circuits

Pushkar Malakar

Abstract

Synthetic biology is the engineering of biological system for the creation of useful and novel properties into the system. This subject tries to use bottom-up approach to answer some of the basic questions in biology like why nature has done something in one way instead of the other. Feedback loops have been used extensively in making genetic circuits through synthetic biology approach to reveal the natural architecture of biological circuits. This field has achieved a lot in the short span since its starting from toggle switch to the creation of artificial bacterial species. In the near future, various challenges lie ahead of biologists working in the area of synthetic biology like food and energy crisis. The field has a lot to offer to mankind if creative ideas are generated and worked out in a proper way.
