Abstract

Cervical cancer is the neoplasm of the uterine cervix cells. Incidences of cervical cancer are increasing in the current scenario. Most of the cervical cancers are of carcinoma type and there are also rare cases of non-carcinoma cancers. Human papilloma virus infection is considered to be the major cause for the disease, which occurs because of improper sanitation and riskier sexual habits. The disease condition is mostly by passed without any symptoms in the beginning and signs occur during the later stages of the disease. Pap smear testing is helpful in identifying the disease cells even in the precancerous stages. The condition is managed with treatment measures like chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical therapy. HPV vaccines like gardasil and cervarix are currently available for the prevention of HPV infection.
