Diuretic Activity of the Leaves of Crataeva nurvala
Abstract
Crataeva nurvala was used in the traditional medicine as diuretic. In the present study, an aqueous and ethanolic extract of leaves of Crataeva nurvala were evaluated for diuretic activity and the activity was compared with furosamide (10mg/kg) as standard. Both extracts were evaluated by determination of urine volume and electrolyte concentration in albino rats. Results revealed that both the aqueous and ethanolic extract at dose 500mg/kg showed significant diuretic activity by increasing the total volume of urine and minimal excretion of electrolyte.
