Abstract

Large amount of natural resources being consumed for the production of concrete is a prime concern in the issues of sustainability. Bridging the gap between the dwindling natural resources and their high demand is a sustainability issue which is needed to be addressed. The use of alternative materials in place of natural materials such as stone dust, fly ash, coal bottom ash is gaining popularity in order to reduce the environmental concerns. The demolition of old structures and construction activity generates waste which is a concerned matter all over the world. Thus, recycling and reuse of these wastes may reduce the usage of natural resources and it can also serve towards the demand of environment. The present paper gives a brief status of construction and demolition waste and its potential in infrastructural applications.
