A New Methodology for Reliability Analysis of Interconnected Power System by using Improved Genetic Algorithm

Deb S, Patra S

Abstract

Reliability of interconnected power system is an important parameter in power system analysis. Reliability of power system is measured by reliability indices. Analysis of reliability indices of interconnected power system is usually based on contingency enumeration approach or statistical approach. These methods have some limitations. Moreover, for large systems, these methods are not applicable. In this paper, an improved genetic algorithm based method is described for reliability indices calculation of interconnected power system. Here GA is not used for optimization, the states of the system which contribute to loss of load are scanned according to failure frequency and the loss of load probability (LOLP) is determined. The proposed method is applied to RBTS test system.
