Rajnikant H. Bhesdadiya, Rajesh M Patel

Abstract

Evolution of hybrid optimization provides new research direction in the real world problem solving by using more than one optimization techniques for obtaining speedy convergence and/or global optimal solution or solution near the global optimal. In this paper, a novel hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) and grey wolf optimizer (GWO) technique is used to calculate the available transfer capability in an optimal power flow environment. The proposed method has been applied to real Indian 246-bus power system with an objective to optimize ATC, keeping all constraints within specified limits. The performances of hybrid GWO-PSO method are compared withstand alone SA, PSO and GWO to verify the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed HGWOPSO algorithm. The experimental results show that HGWOPSO outperforms both PSO and GWO for bus-to-bus ATC calculation in terms of avoiding local minima and convergence rate. The main contribution of this paper is to formulate the two new ATCGWO and ATCHGWOPSO algorithm to calculate the bus-to-bus ATC in the OPF environment for Indian 246-bus, reduced northern region power grid, power system.
