Nowadays we are living in such an era of science where authentication has become one of the greatest challenges in the thorny issue of security. There are many ways in which authentication can be provided, but among them biometric authentication is indispensable. Among all the biometrics in use today the highest level of uniqueness, performance, universality and circumvention are provided by eye based biometrics (i.e., iris and retina recognition). This paper deals with the development of a multimodal biometric system by fusing iris recognition and retina recognition, where feature level fusion is used to consolidate iris recognition system and retina recognition system. Another goal of this work is to conduct a comparative study among iris recognition, retina recognition and multimodal biometrics (i.e., the fusion of iris and retinal biometrics) in terms of recognition rate. The preliminary results were encouraging as the recognition rate of the developed multimodal system was 97.959% while the recognition rate of iris and retina recognition system were 96.599 and 93.878% respectively. Keywords: Iris recognition, retina recognition, multimodal biometrics, feature level fusionCite this Article: Barshon Sen, Md.
