Resumé

The mixed heterotrophic microbial consortium isolated from Indian cow dung was investigated for the effect of pH ranging between 5.0 and 8.0 on its fermentative hydrogen-producing ability, end-metabolite and glucose-conversion efficiency. 1% w/v glucose was supplemented as carbon source. Results showed that mixed microbial consortium exhibited maximum hydrogen production and percentage glucose conversion efficiency at pH 7.5. From the investigation of total VFA content on HPLC, acetate was reported as the dominant end-metabolite which could further be utilized in photo-fermentative hydrogen production. The experiments were carried out at temperature 35 ± 2 °C in 120 mL serum bottles batch cultures.  Keywords: Mixed microbial consortium, glucose conversion efficiency, glucose, acetate, VFA
