Direction of Arrival Estimation in Mobile Communication Systems using MUSIC Algorithm

Adaptive antenna arrays use multiple antenna elements to form directional patterns in order to improve the performance of wireless communication systems. The antenna arrays also have the ability to estimate the Direction-of-Arrival (DoA) of the signals received from the desired transmitters as well as the directions of interference signals. The results of DoA estimation are then used to adjust the weights of the adaptive Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) antenna so that the radiated power is maximized towards the desired users, and radiation nulls are placed in the directions of interference signals. A popular technique used to estimate the DoA is the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. The MUSIC algorithm arranges the signal into its covariance matrix, and then performs an Eigen decomposition process to produce the signal and noise subspace and then obtain the DoA by searching the subspace. We designed a MIMO wireless communication system, and developed computer simulation programs using Matlab to evaluate the DoA using the MUSIC algorithm, then to compare between using linear array and circular array, and to make a comparison between using linear array, and circular array.Опубликован
