Performance Assessment of IRT Method for Distillation Model Control

A Wood and Berry distillation column was considered for experimentation and the Improved Relay Tuning (IRT) method was applied for design of optimum PID settings. The closed loop response was obtained using optimum values of PID parameters and compared with that ofconventional relay method and other non relay method. The integral square error (ISE) criterion for the performance assessment was used and it was found that the integral error has been decreased by IRT method as compared to other methods.
