Ball and beam system is an unstable and nonlinear system which is specially designed for understanding various control engineering problems. The proportional integral and derivative (PID) controller is mostly used to stabilize the ball on the beam. Initially, Skogestad internal model control (SIMC) tuning method is used to design the PID controller for stabilizing the ball at desired position on the beam. The parameters of PID controller decide the performance of the ball and beam system. The performance of ball and beam system is analyzed with multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) based PID controller and compared with SIMC based PID controller of ball and beam system. The simulation results show that the MOPSO based PID controller gives better performance when compared to the SIMC based PID controller of ball and beam system. Cite this Article R. Monika, M.
