Self-tuning Adaptive Control of Rotor Voltage of Doubly Fed Induction Generator in Wind Farms
Abstract
The dynamic performance of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) in the wind farms can be enhanced through appropriate converter controls. This article presents a self-tuning control strategy for a DFIG rotor voltage which employs pole-shift technique in the discrete system model. From a large number of simulation studies involving various types of disturbances covering a range of operating conditions, it was observed that the online adaptive model based control was able to ride through extreme low voltage conditions at the grid bus. The robustness of the proposed control was evaluated through a PI controller, parameters of which were determined by pole-placement technique. The proposed control strategy showed superior performance over a range of operating conditions. Recovery to normal system operation was smooth and fast.
