Abstract

Notch effect on low cycle fatigue of AA 2024-T351 was investigated. Decreasing notch curvature leads to less cyclic hardening. Values of fatigue strength exponent (b) and fatigue ductility (c) for notch specimens were out of range of metallic materials. The SEM examination showed multi-crack origins with secondary cracks and a large final-fracture zone for unnotched specimens, while there was small final fracture zone close to the center of the specimen in the notched specimens.
