Utilization of harder and tougher cutting tool materials is essential in cutting tool industry.Nitride coated cutting tools are becoming alternative materials for machining various materials due to its high mechanical and tribological properties. Demand for coated cutting tools is increasing because of reduced cutting force, increased hardness and wear resistance. In this research article, the TiAlN and CrN coated cutting tool materials for metal removal are studied and compared with uncoated tool materials for the same application. The inserts were coated using a physical vapor deposition system and machining performances were investigated in a dry turning operation and wear measurement was analyzed. Deformation and stress analysis was done by ANSYS analysis. It was observed that cutting force of TiAlN coated cutting tool was higher as compared to uncoated and CrN coated cutting tool, which reduced the cutting cycle. Tool wear of CrN and TiAlN coated was very less as compared to uncoated cutting tool.Cite this ArticlePina Bhatt, Shah HN. Computational and experimental analysis of nitride coated cutting tools.
