Resumé

The reuse and recycle of waste in Tungabhadra block of National Games Village, Bengaluru has been studied. At the Tungabhadra Block, the residents segregate their wastes into two bins, one for the wet and other for the dry waste, before they dispose of it. Then the garbage is segregated further by a secondary process where the wet waste is turned in to compost and the dry waste is segregated in to different categories based on the training by Vellore Srinivasan, an expert in Solid Waste Management (SWM) and his Indian green service, along with Meera Rajesh, a software consultant and one of the resident of Tungabhadra block. The segregated dry is sold and just 10% goes to landfill which includes sanitary napkins and babies pampers. The composting unit which turns wet waste into compost is a great help towards realizing this zero waste management dream of Srinivasan.  Keywords: Municipal Solid waste (MSW), Compost, National Games Village (NGV), Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM).
