Estrus (Heat) Detection Aids in Dairy Animals: A Review

Resumen

 In India, as dairy technology is developing day by day, reproductive performance of dairy animals requires regular and accurate heat detection. Heat detection is very useful for proper timing of artificial insemination. Failure to detect estrus (heat) is a major contributing factor for low fertility. New technologies for the solution of this problem must be more effective than visual observation and aids currently used to detect estrus. This paper mainly concentrates on what is estrus, need for accurate detection of estrus, signs of estrus, the brief view of papers, patents and products available on different electronic aids for estrus detection.Keywords: Heat detection aids, Estrus period, Signs of estrus
