Resumen

Activated carbon was prepared from Moringa oleifera seed shells by thermal activation method. The carbonization and activation temperatures were 500, 600 and 700°C respectively, at 13 min for each process after pre-carbonization for 25 min. The pH of the activated carbon produced were 9.55 at 500°C, 9.78 at 600°C and 9.97 at 700°C while the yield decreased with increase in temperature as follows: 30.40% at 500°C, 29.35% at 600°C and 16.95% at 700°C respectively. The results show that the capacity for a carbon to absorb impurities tend to improve as the temperature of the production increased. Keywords: Carbonization, activated carbon, moringa oleifera, activationMyek B, Adesina OB, Ochigbo V. et al.
