Abstrakt

ZnO nanoparticles doped with cobalt were synthesized by electrochemical method. The crystal structure and surface morphology were characterized by X-Ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopy. The optical properties were studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy and from this the band gap energy was found to be 3.17 eV. The XRD data revealed that the crystalline size to be ~21.23 nm. The functional group test was done by FTIR-spectroscopy. SEM results showed the surface morphology of the nanoparticles. In order to ensure the catalytic ability, the photocatalytic degradation for Bromophenol blue dye using Co-doped ZnO nanoparticles at different experimental conditions has been carried out. The COD test was conducted at every stage to ensure the complete mineralization of the dye. The degradation efficiency of Co-doped ZnO was found to be ~95%. The undoped ZnO and Co-doped ZnO were screened to evaluate their antibacterial activity. This study revealed that Co-doped ZnO exhibit very good inhibition effect towards bacterial growth when compared to undoped ZnO nanoparticles.Keywords: Co-doped ZnO nanoparticles, electrochemical method, characterization, bromophenol blue dye, degradation, antibacterial activityCite this Article:Sowbhagya, Ananda S.
