Abstract

A simple precipitation and calcination method has been evolved for synthesis of copper oxide (CuO) nano hollow spheres in air ambience. Copper nitrate was used as precursor material in the preparation, and sodium hydroxide was used as precipitating agent. The precipitated particles were subjected to calcinations for oxidation. The obtained CuO nanoparticles were characterised by the following analytical methods of XRD, FTIR, DLS, AFM, SEM and TEM for feature of the CuO nanoparticles. The XRD results indicated that the synthesized CuO nanoparticles had a crystal like structure and the range of nanoparticle sizes were about 11.13 – 51.14 nm. FTIR results provided the information about the functional group or structure of CuO nanoparticles compound. The CuO naoparticles were got size of 5.61 nm by the DLS measurements. AFM results were exhibited the different size and shape of the CuO nanoparticles. SEM investigation reveals that the CuO nanoparticles were showed the different structures like agglomerated particles and irregular shapes. The TEM results were showed the CuO nanoparticles with hollows spheres morphologies.  Keywords: Copper oxide, chemical synthesis, nano hollow spheres, nanoparticles, characterization, nanopowder.
