Effectiveness of SIM Regarding Psychotropic Drugs in Terms of Knowledge Among Nursing Personnel
Resumé
The increased use of psychotropic medication has been dramatic for adolescents, adults, and the elderly, which indicates that nursing professionals need to increase their knowledge base and understanding of psychotropic medications, the importance of diagnosis, understanding the basic psychotropic medications by name and how they work, an awareness of side-effects/complications, and the importance of staying current with research in this field. The current study was taken up to evaluate the effectiveness of self-instructional module (SIM) regarding psychotropic drugs in terms of knowledge among 30 nursing personnel working at Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (IMHH), Agra. And the finding revealed that the computed ‘t’ value of 2.65 was found to be statistically significant at 0.05 level which showed that the mean difference between the mean pre-test and post-test knowledge scores of nursing personnel was a true difference and not by chance. There was association with post-test knowledge scores and the professional qualification (22.5) and experience (8.57) as values were found to be significant at 0.05 level of significance, which indicates that these variables had an influence on the knowledge scores of nursing personnel. Thus, it was concluded that the SIM was effective in enhancing the knowledge of nursing personnel regarding psychotropic drugs.
