Abstract

An experimental and evaluative research approach study was conducted with one group pretest-posttest design to evaluate the effectiveness of the STP on care of low birth weight neonates among postnatal mothers in a selected hospital at Bangalore. The sample composed of 50 postnatal mothers, using simple convenient sampling technique. The tool used for the data collection was structured interview schedule, the content validity of the tool was established by giving it to seven experts and reliability of the tool was determined using correlation formula. The association between variables like occupation, type of family and educational status of postnatal mothers with posttest knowledge scores were found to be significant. Further, family income/month, religion, residence, food habit, age, monthly income were found to be non-significant. The posttest mean knowledge scores on care of low birth weight neonates was higher 79.5% with standard deviation 3.44 when compared with pretest mean knowledge scores values of 46.25% with standard deviation 3.44.
