Abstract:Study was undertaken with purpose to assess the compliance of medical regimen and bio-psychosocial problems of End stage renal clients undergoing hemodialysis. The conceptual framework adopted for the study was based on Rosenstoch’s (1974) and Becker’s (1975) health belief model. A descriptive research design was used to conduct study on 100 end stage renal clients undergoing hemodialysis selected by purposive sampling method from nephrology units of selected hospitals, Amritsar, Punjab. An interview technique was used to collect data with compliance assessment and problem assessment questionnaire along with demographic characteristics. Findings of the result revealed that all the clients complied well with the medical regimen. (81) and (19%) clients had very good and good compliance score respectively. (50%) of end stage renal clients had obtained average problem score. By using chi square to find the relationship between compliance score and selected demographic variables it was found that education level of clients and source of knowledge about hemodialysis to be statistically significant (p>0.05). All the other demographic variables i.e. age, gender, marital status, religion, dietary habit, occupation, monthly income, type of family and support group were not found to be statistically significant (p>0.05). Relationship between problem score and selected demographic variables i.e. age, gender, marital status, religion, dietary habit, education, occupation, monthly income, type of family, support group and source of knowledge about hemodialysis were not found to be statistically significant (p>0.05). This suggests that bio psychosocial problems of the clients are independent of selected demographic variables. Keywords: End stage renal disease, compliance, bio-psychosocial problemsCite this Article:Ramesh Kumari, Jicy Shaji, Madhu.
