Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching on Self Care Management among Patients with Diabetes mellitus

Abstract:There are 300 million patients diagnosed with diabetes worldwide. The unbelievable fact is that India is making the world diabetes capital; every sixth diabetic in the world is Indian. Self-care management is that where the individuals initiate and perform on behalf of themselves in maintaining life, health and well-being. Self-care in diabetes is crucial. It has been claimed that as much as 98% of diabetes care is self-care. So, the study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on knowledge, attitude, and practice on self-care management among patients with diabetes mellitus. This study was a true experimental study conducted among the patients with diabetes mellitus who are attending outpatient department. A total of 60 samples were selected by using simple random sampling technique, out of which 30 for experimental group and 30 for control group. Data was collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire, attitude, scale and a practice check list. The mean post test score of knowledge (77.3), attitude (67.25) and practice (78.89) of experimental group is higher than mean post test score of knowledge (46.27), attitude (44.73) and practice (53.33) of control group. This study indicates that video assisted teaching had been effective in improving the knowledge, attitude, and practice on self-care management among patients with diabetes mellitus. So further video assisted teaching can be done on diabetic patients to prevent complications of diabetes mellitus.Keywords: Video assisted teaching, self- care management, diabetic patientsCite this Article:Hariprasath P, Aruna.
