All nursing personnel should have knowledge and skill regarding cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, deficient awareness regarding CPR has been reported in literature. A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the knowledge regarding CPR among the nursing personnel working in emergency department of a tertiary care hospital. Using purposive, convenient sampling technique, a total of 70 nursing personnel were enrolled in the study. A validated questionnaire was used to get the information. Mean age of the nursing personnel was 29.7 ± 7 years with range between 21–52 years. 71.4% of the nursing personnel were between the age group of 20 and 30 years. Majority (90%) of the participants were female and were nursing sisters grade II (92.9%) with mean professional experience of 7.3 ± 6.2 years. Only 23% of the nursing personnel had undergone one-day training in CPR. The maximum knowledge score regarding CPR was 15. There was a significant difference between the trained and untrained nursing personnel with respect to knowledge regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (p = 0.01). Regular in-service education programs need to be organized in order to improve the knowledge and skill regarding CPR amongst the nursing personnel.Опубликован
