Time Management Practices among Undergraduate Nursing Students of Chandigarh, India

A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the time management practices among nursing students of National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh in 2013. The study was conducted on the BSc. Nursing students using the total enumeration sampling technique and total sample was 306 students. The tool used for data collection was questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic profile, standardized tool of time management and practices of time management and activities of daily routine. The data was collected in the month of April 2013 for 3 days. At one time only, the whole class was administered questionnaire and collected from them after 30 min. The study was approved by Departmental Ethics Committee. The data collected was analyzed using the descriptive and inferential statistics. Most of the students 208(65.2%) were good in short-range planning. Nearly half of them 176(55.2%) were having good time management practice in terms of long-range planning and 130(40.8%) were having difficulty in long-range planning. With respect to controlling one’s environment more than half of them 187(58.6%) were good and 119(37.3%) were having difficulty in controlling one’s environment. Time management practices were significantly better among senior class students and hostelers. Hence it is recommended that time management should be an integral part of nursing curriculum in the initial years of training.Keywords time management, undergraduate nursing studentsОпубликован
