Abstract:There are almost 52 million visually impaired people and 270,000 blind children in India. That's almost one-fourth the world's blind population living in India. Eye donation provides people who are blind with an opportunity to regain their vision through corneal transplantation, research and teaching. The need for donated eyes far exceeds the availability of donations. Nursing students are the future health care providers for the community. They are from different areas and have an inclination to serve mankind. With this background, they were admitted into this study with the objective of assessing their knowledge and attitude on eye donation in selected nursing colleges of Hassan Karnataka. It was an evaluative research with pre-experimental single group pre-test post-test design. The study population included IV Year B.Sc nursing students of N.D.R.K College of nursing Hassan, Karnataka. Probability simple random sampling technique was used to select the subjects from nursing colleges. The instrument for the data collection was a structured questionnaire and a 5 Point Attitude scale. The mean post-test level of attitude is significantly higher than the mean pre test attitude scores that is 54.17% pre test and 91.6% post test with paired “t”=43.43 at P=0.001 significance. There was significant association between the findings of knowledge and attitude with demographic variables such as mother’s education and previous information on eye donation estimated by chi-square (χ2) test.
