Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a non-conventional machining method with unique capabilities. WEDM offers a better alternative or sometimes the only alternative to produce complex shaped features and components of difficult-to-machine materials. In today’s highly competitive manufacturing industries, manufacturer’s ultimate goal is to produce high quality product with less time and cost constraint. To achieve these goals, one of the considerations is by optimizing the machining process parameters such as, cutting speed, pulse on/off durations, voltage, wire feed, wire tension etc. Various optimization techniques are available for the optimization of the machining process parameters. This paper gives an overview and the comparison of latest sixteen years researches from 2000 to 2015 wherein various methods were used to optimize machining parameters of WEDM. The research papers reviewed here came from selected databases, which limits the generalizability of the findings to the whole existing literature on WEDM [1]. The review of the existing literature was done to reduce the time and efforts of present and future researchers in this area by providing them a quick snapshot of the latest trend in techniques, materials and various parameters of WEDM. As herein, the literature found that Taguchi and regression analysis had been widely used for optimizing machining parameters. Cite this Article Vaishali Sharma, Manish Kumar Sagar.
