Preference of Motivator and Hygiene Factors among Inductees of Public Sector Organization

Abstract

With a view to studying the perceived needs of the newly joined employees of public sector, the authors collected data for different job related factors under two categories - Motivators and hygiene factors. The study, after a detailed analysis of the various job factors, concludes that the need perception which depicts motivational factors are major responsible for their retention and satisfaction for the job. Results conclude that Job Security, Salary/Benefits and Challenging task & Responsibility are some of the top preferred motivators. Result also supports Herzberg’s two factor theory and it was found that working condition, seniors’ support and praise/ recognition work as hygiene factors which are responsible for Dissatisfaction if not provided to employees. It was found that 53% of new recruits are satisfied with the company because of motivational factors. Analysis found 9% of new employees were dissatisfied with the training they received for their current job which may lead to low performance and ambiguity related to job.Keywords: Motivators, Hygiene factors, Herzberg’s two factor theory
