Resumo

Basin morphometry is a means of numerically analyzing or mathematically quantifying different aspects of a drainage basin. In the present study, morphometric analysis of the Ansupa lake Catchment has been carried using earth observation data and geographical information system (GIS) techniques. The morphometric parameters considered for analysis includes the linear, areal and relief aspects of the basin. The study has strengthened in understanding the hydrological, geological and geomorphological characteristics of the Ansupa lake Catchment. This study attempts to perform the drainage analysis on a terrain model for Ansupa Catchment situated in Cuttack district of Odisha. It is a fresh water lake and there are a number of small lakes around it. The lake falls in Survey of India toposheet No. 73/H11 (1:50000) and 73H11NW (1:25,000). It is bounded by 20â°26′06′′ to 20â°28′03′′N latitude and 85â°35′09′′ to 85â°36′06′′ E longitude. The lake represents the characters of a typical ox-bow lake and back swamp by lying within the alluvial plain of river Mahanadi on its left. Keywords:Morphometry,Earth observation, Linear, Relief, Ox-bow
