Comparative Studies on Anti-inflammatory and Diuretic Activities of Alternanthera Bettzickiana, Alternanthera pungens, Alternanthera tenella and Digera muricata

Abstrakt

The Benzene and Alcholic extracts of four medicinal plants such as Alternanthera bettzickiana, Alternanthera pungens, Alternanthera tenella and Digera muricata were studied for antiinflammatory and diuretic activities in albino rats. Anti inflammatory test was performed against carrageenin induced paw oedema method by using diclofenac sodium as standard. The parameters measured for the assessment of diuretic activity were total urine volume, sodium, potassium and chloride concentration in urine.The results of each plant extracts were compared which showed that the alcoholic extract of Alternanthera tenella (500mg/kg) showed higher anti inflammatory activity than the other three plants and the alcoholic extract of Digera muricata (250mg/kg) showed higher diuretic activity than the other three plants.
