Analysis of Bore and Pond Waters at Storage Used for Drinking in Villages of Coimbatore for Determination of Coliforms

The aim of the study was to identify the MPN Index of the water samples that were available for drinking purpose in selected villages. The water that was used for drinking should be free from any form of contamination in order to prevent ourselves getting infected by water borne diseases. The detection of Coliforms by this method helps in the identification of either the water shall used for drinking or not. In accordance with Indian Standards, the MPN Index value of less than 10 shall considered for the purpose of drinking. Thus, the contaminated water was responsible for various waterborne diseases such as Dysentery, Shigellosis, Cholera, and Typhoid etc. Two villages were identified for this study as pilot scale was known as Kovaipudur and Sundakamuthur. 10 households were considered for this study by their dependency of either Bore water or Pond water for drinking purpose. The total of 10 Bore water and 10 Pond water samples were analyzed. 10 Houses with bore water shows less MPN index per 100 ml whereas the pond water shows higher MPN Index. In conclusion the water samples that were taken from any source , the samples of Kovaipudur shows less Coliform count when compared with the water samples that were taken from Sundakamuthur.Veröffentlicht
