Pharmacognostical and Physicochemical Studies of Elytraria acaulis (L.F.) Lindau
Abstract
Nature has bestowed on us a very rich botanical wealth and a large number of diverse types of plants grow in different parts of the country. Herbal medicine is still the main stay of about 75–80% of the whole population, and the major part of traditional therapy involves the use of plant extract and their active constituents. In recent years there has been rapid increase in the standardization of selected medicinal plant of potential therapeutic significance. Despite the modern techniques, identification of plant drug by pharmacognostic study is more reliable. In the present study pharmacognostical and physiochemical parameters of different parts of the Elytraria acaulis (L.F.) Lindau belonging to the family Acanthaceae was carried out. This information will be useful for further therapeutical evaluation of the species and will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification.
