Prevalence of Stippling in Attached Gingiva of Children: A Pilot Survey

Resumen

  Stippling in attached gingiva is considered a sign of health. There are no reports on the prevalence of stippling in India. This study aims to describe the prevalence of gingival stippling in children aged between three and six years. The study is conducted as a pilot cross-sectional survey among residents of an Indian village. Participants included 125 children aged between three and six years that were clinically examined for the presence of stippling of the maxillary central incisors gingiva. Prevalence is expressed as percentages and association tested by Chi Square test. 74.79% of the examined children have stippling present. No significant (p > 0.05) was observed between age and sex to the presence of stippling. Majority of the children have stippling from the age of three years.
