Restoration with Biological Crown as a Viable Alternative – Two Case Reports

要旨

Carious exposure sometimes rules out the option of restoration where comes the need for root canal treatment with subsequent replacement of the coronal structure with post-core and artificial crown. But if the molars are destructed severely and the patient also has an impacted molar, crown of that impacted molar can be used as biological crown and can be successfully cemented on the prepared tooth. Dental fragment obtained through natural, extracted teeth from the individual represents a low-cost alternative technique for the morpho-functional recovery of extensively damaged posterior teeth. This case report refers to the aesthetics and functional recovery of extensively damaged mandibular second molar using the crown of impacted mandibular third molar after RCT and post-core of the second molar and surgical removal of impacted third molar. And the result was a full coverage restoration of the grossly carious tooth with biological restoration with natural crown as a viable alternative.
