Quality of Life and its Effect on Mental Health among Elderly People

Abstrakt

A descriptive study to assess the quality of life and its effect on mental health among elderly people in selected old age home of Delhi was undertaken by Shaiphali Akhai at Guru Vishram Vridha Ashram, Badarpur, New Delhi to find out the association between QOL with selected demographic variables and to find out the association between mental health and selected demographic variables. Findings of the study revealed that most of the elderly people living in old age home have moderate quality of life and moderate mental health related to depression and anxiety. The mental health of the elderly people was dependent on age and educational status. There was a positive relationship between quality of life and mental health of elderly people living in old age home which indicates, as the quality of life increases, the mental health of elderly people also increases and vice versa.Keywords: Quality of Life (QOL), mental health, elderly people, old age home, ageing, depression, anxiety
