Аннотация

Basal cell adenoma is a type of monomorphous adenoma of salivary glands. We report a rare case of left-sided parotid tumor in a 52-year-old male. The patient had history of left parotid swelling since three years. Clinically and on FNAC report, diagnosis was pleomorphic adenoma of salivary gland. The mass was excised surgically. On gross examination, it was approximately 3 × 3 × 2 cm, grayish white, soft to firm, capsulated mass with smooth shiny outer surface. It looked like pleomorphic adenoma but on histopathological examination it revealed as basal cell adenoma. Compared to pleomorphic adenoma, it is multiple and its recurrence rate is high. For better prognosis, it is necessary to differentiate it from basal cell adeno carcinoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma and basaloid squamous cell carcinoma. We describe a case of basal cell adenoma of parotid gland with review of literature and discuss diagnosis and management of this rare entity.
