In the present study, fresh and powder leaf extracts of Micrococca mercurialis. (L.) Benth. were used for green synthesis of metallic silver nanoparticles (SNPs). The efficacy of SNPs was tested against some human and animal pathogens. Stable SNPs were formed after adding aqueous solution of 1 mM AgNO3 with the fresh and powder leaf extracts. Quantitative analysis of green synthesized SNP was monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy. Bacteriological tests were performed in Muller-Hinton agar medium on solid agar plates supplemented with leaf and powder extracts-synthesized SNPs. Among the various pathogens, Bacillus subtilis showed maximum activity (16 nm) against fresh leaf synthesized SNPs and Aeromonas sobria showed maximum activity (12 nm) against leaf powder-synthesized SNPs. The present study clearly indicated that the green synthesized SNPs have potent antibacterial activity against selected pathogens. M. mercurialis based SNPs may be suitable for the formulation of new types of bactericidal activity and which can be effectively used in medicinal field for treating various diseases.
