Regular physical exercise is known to cause improvement of the cardiovascular function. This adaptation is studied here with the help of non invasive methods. Our purpose was to determine the effect of sports training on LV morphology and function, lung function and to know whether twelve weeks duration is enough for these changes. This is a longitudinal study comprising of twelve weeks duration and was done on the students of physical education. Eighty-eight subjects (45 male, 20.06 yrs ±1.2, 43 female 19.91 yrs ± 1.89) were assessed using MIR Spirolab and conventional 2-dimentionally guided M- mode Echocardiography within 7days of admission to college and reassessed at the interval of 12 weeks. Significant improvement was seen in PEFR and Ejection fraction in male students but other cardio respiratory parameters showed no significant change. In female students, no significant change was observed in any of the cardio respiratory parameters. Aerobic power increased very significantly in both, but there was a poor correlation between aerobic power and PFT parameters. Exercise program appeared to improve aerobic fitness in males and females, also caused improvement in EF and PEFR in males but it caused no significant change in cardio respiratory parameters in females.Downloads
