Assessment of the Saliva and Serum Interleukine-6 in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis: Case Controlled Study
要旨
Abstract:Chronic periodontitis is a multifactorial disease characterized by an interaction between dental plaque antigen and components of the host defense system. Cytokines are considered to play a key role in the inflammation process in chronic periodontitis. The aim of the study was to assess the levels of Interleukin-6(IL-6) in saliva and serum of patients with chronic periodontitis and to compare them with the levels that observed in healthy subjects. This design of this study is case-controlled. The samples of study were collected from 30 subjects with chronic periodontitis and 30 healthy subjects that matched for age and sex, together. Salivary and serum IL-6, a marker of inflammation, was measured using enzyme–linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technology. The results showed a significant high serum and saliva levels of IL-6 in patients with chronic periodontitis as compared to healthy subjects were observed (P = 0.000). There was a statistically significant positive association (r = 0.36, p Ë‚ 0.05) between salivary IL-6 and the pocket depth in the chronic periodontitis. It concludes that in chronic periodontitis, systemic as well as the local levels of IL-6 as an inflammatory marker levels are increased indicating that chronic periodontitis is a systemic disease. Keywords: Chroinc periodontitis, saliva, serum, Interleukine-6Cite this article:Nankaly Haween T.
