Resumo

Trickling filter system is an attached growth process which removes the pollutants from the wastewater via biological oxidation. In this research, the media is fabricated from perforated spherical celluloid in the arrangement of hexagonal close packed. The targeted compounds are specifically nitrogenous compounds, namely ammonia-nitrogen and nitrate-nitrogen, alongside biological oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand. The percentage removal of the aforementioned parameters was found to be in the range of 55 and 97%. Comparing these to the performance of a conventional trickling filter system, the results are satisfactory. Keywords: trickling filter, hexagonal close-packed, ammonia-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen
