Abstract

Facility Layout design is a multi-disciplinary, knowledge-intensive task that is a vital issue for the survival of manufacturers in today’s globally competitive environment. Facility Layout involves selection and arrangement of machines, material handling equipments, material handling route that reduces time and cost involved in manufacturing process. The present work involves a hybrid model which utilises allocation of facility technique and the new layout is analysed by simulation software which is further checked for optimized result using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) that reduces material handling cost (i.e., movement between different sections of the plant) and required floor space area.
