A Portable Induction Hardening System with New Dynamic Response based Characterization of Hardened Samples
Abstract
In this paper we have first discussed about the requirement of a portable induction hardening system which can be easily tailored for variable job-work applications. Such a system is first developed in the laboratory and successfully utilised for hardening steel pins made of various alloys. Later, it is shown that the dynamic response of such a system can be used for hardness estimation as these are sensitive towards the change of the depth of case hardening of a sample. A simple numerical model is also developed to compare the results with experimental observations. The new process is envisaged to successfully substitute the process of destructive testing of steel samples and save material wastage in industrial applications.\
