Processing and Properties of In situ Synthesized Reinforcements in Molten Magnesium
Abstract
In situ synthesized reinforcements for magnesium composites are an attractive area of research especially due to the inherent advantages of the process. Various reinforcements such as intermetallics and ceramics have proved their effectiveness in magnesium by imparting higher mechanical and tribological properties to the metal matrix. Fabrication of reinforcements in molten magnesium matrix is a very critical area owing to large scale production prospective and ease of implementation. This paper comprehensively discusses the major in situ synthesized reinforcements used in molten magnesium, their processing techniques and properties.
