Factors Contributing to Pharmacological Compliance Among Hypertensive Clients

Abstract

Control of hypertension requires good deal of compliance with the prescribed therapeutic regimen of drugs. Nurses have a unique role to play in monitoring compliance and to study factors leading to non-compliance for chronic diseases like hypertension. The present community based study was conducted among 100 diagnosed cases of hypertension in an urban area of Amritsar, Punjab by using pill count method. The findings of the study depict that 45% of the study subjects were complying with the drugs, whereas remaining 55% were non-compliant. Absence of disease symptoms was cited as the most frequent reason for non-compliance, followed by work pressure. Age and gender were also significantly associated with non-compliance.
