Abstract

The study area was Udupi, a temple town located in Karnataka state. Udupi is a land of celestial beauty and is inserted between the abundant mountains of the Western Ghats on the east and the immense calm Arabian Sea on the west. Temperature ranges from 30 to 350C in day time and is around 22–22°C±2°C during night. Udupi has a latitude of 13,3500 (1320'60.000"N), longitude of 74,7500 (7445'0.000"E) and Altitude of 131 (feet). Solid waste samples weighing approximately 2 to 2.5 Kgs were randomly taken from Karkala and Udupi districts and then transferred into the nylon bags and brought to the laboratory for further evaluation for the incidence of bacteria. The objective of the work includes collection of domestic solid waste-isolation, identification of micro flora, mass culture and separation of enzymes from culture, in vitro degradation of solid waste. Expressed bacterial colonies on the nutrient agar will be characterized based on Bergey’s manual and identification of fungi based on Barnett manual.
