Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemical and antioxidant effectiveness of methanolic extract and different fractions (n-butanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform and n-hexane) of Z. rhetsa bark. Phytochemical activity of Zanthoxhylum rhetsa (Roxb) bark extract alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, saponins and antraquinones was carried out. Antioxidant scavenging enzyme profile assays were done and profiles were developed for validation. The results indicated that bark extract and fractions of Z. rhetsa showed moderate activity as antidiabetic agent by evaluating antioxidant and phytochemical potential. The Z. rhetsa bark extracts showed highly significant DPPH radical scavenging activity from 23.24 to 75.24 μg/mL and reducing power capacity. Nitric oxide, peroxide scavenging assay was also found to be moderately differing in the bark extract of Z. rhetsa. The Z. rhetsa bark solvent extract were tested throughout 95% methanolic extract and ethylacetate fraction which show signs of the maximum antioxidant activity particularly DPPH, total phenol and flavonoids content are in large demand as they can exacerbate various obstacle resembling diabetics in associated as a result of oxidative stress. The results of the present investigation demonstrated highly significant (p<0.05) variations in the antioxidant and phytochemical activities of Z. rhetsa bark solvent extract/fractions used for the prognosis of antidiabetics.
