SHEQ to Shake the Car Development for Tomorrow Part-I

Priyavrat Thareja

Abstract

The car market has become the dictate of both the unavoidable human dependency cum status, and of the human affluence threatening the ecology and sustainability of earth system, safety and health on road, availability of fuel needed in the life expectancy of vehicle, and also journey. Keeping a balance between all of these requirements is intense and complicated. Resources like roads have been continuously shrunk, inspite that the replenishment has also been attempted both reactively and proactively. In short all planning has been threatened for a failure, just because the current technological revolution has been responding with expeditious Change(s). In this paper, I wish to investigate in greater details in two sessions. Essentially, what, why and how the “Technical revolution” in car industry is impacting today’s research for safe driving on tomorrow’s road is the purpose of the two parts. What and why are essentially investigated in this (first) session, while, why and how will be taken up in second part. In this part the discussion revolves around a model of balancing ambition versus capability which rules the today’s technology versus research direction for a vehicle on road which suffices the SHEQ requirements. This safety, health, environment, and quality is another way of qualification ascertaining the directions in production engineering research.
